BEFORE AND AFTER: OUR DINING ROOM

Dining Room | The Renovated Acre

<> <> <>

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! This week I am sharing our dining room from our home renovation in 2011.  This room was formerly a den/office space.  In case you missed my post about our kitchen, our main goal during the renovation was to make our house feel more open so we decided to take the wall down that separated the future dining area from the family room.

We have limited space for a table in our kitchen so we chose a larger dining table that would accommodate our family plus guests. Although this is considered our dining room it is much less formal than a typical dining room. It is connected to our family room so we wanted it to be a little more casual.  We actually found the table and chairs on sale at NFM in the Design Gallery.  The table had a few scratches on the surface but luckily we knew of a local craftsman that refinishes furniture.  When we got it back it looked brand new! And now that I have boys who like to drive trucks on our tables, I know it will need to be refinished again at some point 😉

We added a built-in buffet where the wall used to be, which has been so useful for two reasons.  One, it has provided us with a lot of storage space for all of our china, seasonal dishes, and stemware.  Bonus, the boys can’t get into it because it is baby-proofed.  Second, it is a great place for serving dinner.

The artwork below was inspired by a family friend.  We stayed at her cabin a couple years ago and she had this exact piece of artwork hung near her kitchen table.  The sentiment really resonated with me and I fell in love with it.  I knew I wanted one large piece of artwork on this wall since I have a collage on the wall next to it and I like to change it up.  This was the perfect piece, so thank you Sue for inspiring me!
