January – March 2011:
I was working a full time job and my fiancé was finishing up law school. Β We weren’t sure how we would have time to plan a wedding,Β renovateΒ aΒ house and an entire yard. Β Fortunately, my husband was excited to takeΒ on the role ofΒ “general contractor” and knew reliable contractors through his parents who have done several remodeling projects in their home.
WeΒ hired two workers to tackle the demolition during the week and my husband, his father, and I worked on the weekends. Β The demolition phase seemed to take forever because weΒ stripped mostly everything down to the studs. Β We did find a couple surprises, like the original wood floors underneath the carpet, a hidden safe behind the basement bathroom mirror (creepy!), and a false ceiling in the entry way. Β It was a lot of work. Β I remember my husband heading straight to the house after classes and studying toΒ clean up and get it ready for the next day.
AboveΒ are pictures from the demolition and re-framing. Β Thanks for stopping by!
