All about our engineered hardwood floors by Hearthwood
One of the most frequently asked questions I get about our home is, “What wood floors do you have?” They are a white oak engineered hardwood floor called Entropy in the Controlled Chaos collection by Hearthwood. I am so excited to discuss all the details about our floors and why we chose them with you today.
In full disclosure, I reached out to Hearthwood to see if they would want to partner after our floors were installed because Ben and I love them so much for our family. This blog post is sponsored by Hearthwood Floors. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. You can click here to read my disclosures and terms of use.
Floor Color and Plank Size
During the home building process we looked at several engineered hardwood floors in a few different showrooms here in Omaha. We were looking for a floor that was in the light to medium color range and had a wider plank width. When we saw our Entropy floors in a larger sample we loved the natural warmth of them and that they had a 7″ plank width. There is a bit of color variation between each plank but overall they fit in the light to medium color range that we hoped for.
Durability
Another priority was making sure the floors would be durable for our active boys. They drive their cars and trucks on our floors and drop things on occasion so we wanted a floor that wouldn’t show every scratch. These floors have a “worn in” look that we love for our family. They are matte with a water-resistant and protective finish on them, which make them so durable and livable.
Livable
With kids people often think going lighter in your home is more risky but it’s actually the opposite. Dark floors show everything and lighter floors tend to be more forgiving with scratches and crumbs, etc. I want guests to feel comfortable in our home and we have family that drops by often, so it’s nice not to worry about our floors being spotless all the time. We do vacuum frequently but my kids are 6, 4, and 2 years old and inevitably someone makes a mess. Keeping your floors clean with three young kids is nearly impossible!
Our engineered hardwood floors are throughout most of the main level of our home: the kitchen, pantry, office, dinette, living room, dining room, and entry. These rooms are the hub of our home and have the most activity on a daily basis. Our Entropy engineered hardwood floors by Hearthwood have held up wonderfully and we are happy we chose them! They really are the perfect balance of form and function.
If you would like to read about why we chose an engineered hardwood floor vs. a hardwood floor, you can read about that decision in this blog post.

I’m in love with how your floors turned out! They give such a warm, light, airy feel to your home. Gorgeous! We are having our hardwood floors refinished in a few weeks and I think I want to go with a finish similar to the color of your floors. So glad I found your post! Thanks!

We are installing this flooring right now and it looks beautiful! Your post was the motivation to choose Entropy as I had debated on another option forever. Question for you, what had worked the best to clean the floors? Thanks!
Kate
Sarah NielsenThat makes me so happy!! I am so glad you love the floors, too! Our cleaning crew uses a mop / cleaning solution but we clean them with the Swiffer Wet jet in between because that is what Hearthwood recommended.

I am eager to have such a floor in my house.
I am wondering how it aged ? Do you still have this floor ? Any concerns ? I would be glad to have a 3 years later’s review.

CharlesYes, we still have our floors! It has been 3 years since we installed them and I have zero complaints. They look just as good 3 years later 🙂 We love them!!!

Hi, love your floors! I do have a question, why does it look like white caulking in between the boards? Is the edge white?
Bridget
BrendaI was wondering the same thing…

Would you mind sharing how you coordinated the wood on your staircase with your floor? Is the handrail made of white oak? Does it have a wood stain? Is the wood trim at the bottom of your spindles from the same collection as your floor?
