Today I am sharing the exterior plans for our home. Creating the look we wanted for the exterior has been the most challenging part of our home build process so far. To pick one look for our home felt like such a big decision, especially when there are many different styles we both like. When Ben and I sat down to think about what we wanted our home to be like, we decided that above anything else we wanted it to feel warm, approachable, comfortable, and timeless. To us the Cape Cod / Hampton exterior style reminded us of that vibe and that’s what we decided to go with.

Exterior Plans
I am so excited to share our exterior renderings with you! After months of working on this with ADC and Erica, it feels so good to have a design finalized that both Ben and I love.
When you look at the renderings below keep in mind that 1. the exact colors of the stone and side shingles aren’t accurately represented in this photo, 2. the white trim details are hard to see (its all about the details!), and 3. the landscape concept plans from Kinghorn Gardens give it so much character but I am saving that for another post.
We are starting to finalize the exterior finishes which has been exciting! The stone was the very first thing Erica helped me pick out from Baltazar. She had him make me a sample so I am excited to see that in the coming weeks. His show room has SO many stone options, it was really fun to look at all of them!
The sidewall shingles aren’t 100% finalized yet. We have gone back and forth on a couple different products. We have looked at the James Hardie shingle, but we also love the natural/weathered look of primed real cedar shingles. There are pros and cons for each option so we are still stuck on this.
Erica and I met with Pella Windows last week to go over the details for each window. We discussed everything from the hardware finishes on the windows (latches and pulls) to the screen frame color, to which ones would be operable. Having lots of windows and natural light is important to us in our new home.
I’m excited to continue sharing more details as we finalize the finishes and design of our home.
Have a great Monday!

Love the stone that you used. Does it have a specific name?
Kate
Peggy GrimesThank you! Our stone is from a local stone supplier, Baltazar’s Stone. It is called “Morning Fog” without any dark pieces.
