We got back from our family vacation yesterday and I feel so refreshed, and a little less pale! My entire family went to Arizona and we had a blast. We spent time with relatives, swam in the pool and relaxed in the sun. It is the best seeing my sons have so much fun with my parents, sisters, and brother-in-law. My boys sure are loved!
This week I am sharing our living room from our home renovation in 2011. In the 1950’s it was common to have most living spaces separated by pocket doors. To enter the old living room there were two pocket doors; one from kitchen and one from the entryway. We knew we wanted open living spaces so we removed the pocket doors and opened up the walls as much as we could. The only things we kept from this room were the original wood floors, fireplace, and large picture window. We replaced all of the side windows throughout the house, refinished the wood floors, added new trim, drywall, a sound system, and new lighting. There was a little bit of damage to the original wood floors and David Wood Floors did an excellent job feathering in the new floor boards to match the old.

The picture below isn’t the best and was hard to capture with the amount of light that pours in from the large picture window, but I wanted to show the opening between the kitchen and living room. It is so nice being able to make dinner and still see the boys playing in the living room.
Here is another view of our living room looking towards the dining room.

There are a few things I would do to refresh this room after six years and two children, but I am not sure how much longer we will be in this house. If we were going to be living in our house longer I would switch out the rug, sofa pillows, and tables. After having kids, I don’t think I would get glass-top surfaces again due to fingerprints and maintenance. Also I would change the fabric on our sofa. It is a beautiful fabric but not very kid-friendly.
