A Holiday Home Tour with Neutral Christmas Decorations
Today I am sharing a tour of our home all dressed up for the holidays with neutral Christmas decorations. It is our first Christmas in our new home and I have been so excited about decorating this year. All of the greenery, garland, and Christmas decorations make our home feel so cozy and warm as the weather turns colder. I stuck with neutral earth tones and natural greenery both outside and inside.
Front Porch

I kept it pretty simple on our front porch. I used premade planters from Costco and stuck them in black square planters. If you didn’t have a chance to snag the pre-made greens, check out my blog post on how to create easy winter planters.
Next we added real cedar garland around our front door and side-lites. The real cedar garland is from a local nursery, Earl May. Last, I repurposed an old preserved 24″ boxwood wreath with new bells (here and here) and 4″ neutral velvet ribbon, and hung it on the door using two outdoor command hooks. If you are looking for other options, my online home decor store, Jansen Home, sells velvet ribbon for the holidays.

I purchased my faux cedar sprays from Gatehouse No 1. They were affordable and realistic looking! I used a cedar/pine mix, but unfortunately the exact sprays I used sold out. I linked similar options above.
TUTORIAL FOR HOW I DECORATED OUR STAIRCASE WITH GARLAND
To watch a tutorial on how I decorated our staircase with garland, eucalyptus sprays, and ribbon, click here.
On our staircase I used “natural touch norfolk pine garland” (here and here). However, it sold out in November this year! I fastened the garland to our staircase with clear 12″ zip ties.
For the final touch on our staircase I added the prettiest neutral velvet and silk ribbons from ShyMyrtle on Etsy. Her ribbons are gorgeous and such high quality! I wish I had gotten more to complete the entire staircase but there is always next year 🙂
Living Room
Neutral Christmas Tree Decorations
This is our first year with an artificial tree. I researched several brands and decided to go with a 9 ft. Balsam Hill tree. Our tree is the 9 ft. Balsam Fir Narrow Pre-lit Candlelight LED Christmas tree (I linked the 10ft because the 9ft is sold out). Balsam Hill’s trees are so realistic looking and are loaded with lights. Our tree has 1,200 lights! I was also impressed with how it came organized with tree bags and pouches to keep your tree and extras stored nicely. It was well worth the investment for a long-term family Christmas tree.

Here is a tutorial of how I decorated our Christmas tree in previous years.
The only thing I did differently this year is tying the ribbon into “one loop bows”.

TUTORIAL FOR HOW I DECORATED OUR MANTEL FOR CHRISTMAS
If you would like to watch exactly how I created our Christmas mantel,

My mantel this year was inspired by a mantel I saw at Nell Hills a couple years ago. The garland, ribbon, and sparkly twig ball ornaments are all from Nell Hills. I used two pieces of their 6 ft garland and two swags to create this full look. Nell Hills sold out of both, but they do have a 9 ft. garland left.
Ribbon on Christmas Tree, Mantel, and Front Door Wreath
I used the same neutral ribbon in all three places to tie everything together. I bought it at Nell Hills but Jansen Home sells the same holiday ribbon, too.

Christmas Kitchen
Jenna Marie Bakery provided a beautiful Christmas wreath cake and Christmas tree cupcakes for my holiday home tour. Her treats are equally as delicious as they are beautiful! She also has sugar cookie decorating kits you can purchase with free delivery in Omaha/Elkhorn. My kids loved them!
Our Bedroom
We decided to add a tree in our bedroom this year, the Prince Flock 7 ft. tree is from King of Christmas (c/o). I left it undecorated and simple, and I think it looks so beautiful in its natural state.

I hope this helps give you lots of ideas for Christmas decorations in your own home this year! Happy Holidays!

[…] “This year I started decorating in early November because it made me happy. I think we all have to do what makes us feel the best this holiday season! I have certain rooms I like to go all out in, like our living room. Our Christmas tree and mantel are in there and you see it when you walk in our home.” — Kate Knowles, Kate Knowles Home […]
