Self care is more important than ever right now. We will be in our homes over the next 8 weeks (or longer) so lets make the best of it. Practicing self care at home will be especially important for those mamas (or dads) who suddenly find themselves homeschooling their children right now. It’s a stressful time for everyone, but we can all get through this together if we take care of ourselves mentally and physically. Even if your only time to do something is after the kids are asleep, take a little time for yourself and give yourself some grace. Here are some fun ideas for self care at home.
FOR YOUR MIND
Read a new book. Whether they are self help books, fiction, non-fiction, anything to give our minds a break. My favorite time to read is before bed when the kids are asleep. Here’s some books from my list:
Listen to audiobooks. Sometimes I like to play these when I am driving in the car or cooking dinner.
Listen to podcasts. Better yet, listen to a podcast while you shower for the day. It relaxes your mind while learning something new at the same time. Its a win win! Here’s some of my favorites lately:
– How I Built This
– Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations
– The Goal Digger Podcast
– RISE Podcast with Rachel Hollis
– Dear Alice
– A Well-Designed Business
– A Drink with James // Fohr Casts
– Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso
– The Influencer Podcast with Julie Solomon
Listen to your favorite music. Play some music while you are cooking dinner!
Light a candle and journal. Write down 5 things you are grateful for everyday.
Work on a puzzle. My mom and I have been working on this puzzle – isn’t it bright and cheerful?!
Go for a car ride. I love to go on car rides and look at pretty houses for a change of scenery and inspiration.
Take a shower and put on a little makeup. I know this sounds vain, but if you have been housebound for a week and not able to go anywhere it’s the little things that make a difference. I put on makeup today for the first time in a week since we have been social distancing for the Coronavirus, and it felt really good.
If you are a spiritual person, take a few minutes to pray. Pray for everyone effected by Coronavirus, for all of the medical workers saving lives right now and risking their own lives, and pray for the world.
Download an app to help you meditate at the beginning and end of your day. Headspace and Breethe (yes it is spelled Breethe) are a couple good ones!
Watch a show or series that you didn’t have time to watch previously.
FOR YOUR BODY
Exfoliate! It feels so nice to get rid of those dead skin cells. Use something you already have or try one of my favorites.
Take a relaxing bath with a bath soak or a bath bomb.
Try relaxing by using a soy body butter candle. These are amazing! I like to light my candle before I get in the shower and then when I am out the oil is ready to use. It is so moisturizing and refreshing!
Give yourself a manicure and pedicure. I bought a cuticle lab nail treatment set since I won’t be at a nail salon anytime soon. I have been loving it and have been using a nail strengthener, too.
Work on your morning and evening skincare regimen.
Whiten your teeth with an at home kit. I have this one and need to do it again!
Deep condition your hair.
Get outside and go for a walk.
Jump on the trampoline (if you have one) with your kids.
Move your body. I will admit I do not work out right now but I need to do this. If I am going to be homeschooling for the foreseeable future it may just be a necessity! ; ) My sisters workout almost everyday and recommended these apps and websites:
– Sweat by Kayla Itsines
– Lotus House of Yoga
– CorePower Yoga
– Madeline Moves
– Alexia Clark
– P.volve
– Peleton
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST….. TREAT YO’ SELF
Get a new beauty product that you have been wanting to try.
Give yourself an at home facial with beauty products you already have.
Indulge in some comfy and soft pajamas. My favorites are 25% off right now.
Get a pair of soft cozy slippers. I promise you won’t regret it!
Since we are housebound for the foreseeable future, try a new pair of cozy joggers or a comfy top.
Enjoy a glass of your favorite beverage at the end of the day. My favorites are coffee and wine, so you best believe I have been enjoying that!
WE GOT THIS
Isn’t it crazy to think that everyone in the entire world is going through this same exact thing? We all need to practice self care at home to stay mentally and physically strong. Let’s all remember to give ourselves a little bit of grace during this challenging time. We all need to be there for one another. I know we will come out from this stronger than ever before.
Love to you all and prayers that you all stay healthy. Feel free to chat with me on instagram anytime!
