SUMMER GARDEN TOUR

Since summer is officially over, I thought I would share the second part of my summer tour, my summer garden tour.   I like to document everything I planted at the end of the summer when it’s fully grown and see what did well and what didn’t for future planting. This year, I used the same colors throughout our yard: pink, white, and green.

I also planted pink olympia green leaf begonias in the flower beds.  I personally like the “rose” color, they are a deeper pink.

In my front urns I planted green kimberly ferns, pink dragon wing begonias, and white bacopa.  I think next year I would choose a little smaller fern size since they grow so much throughout the summer.  I felt like these took over the pots!

In the pots by our gates entering the backyard I planted two ball eugenia topiaries, pink dragon wing begonias, and white calibrachoa.  This was the first year I planted topiaries and they did surprisingly well!

I tried planting clematis on our trellis this year.  At first it did well but sadly it did not survive the summer.

I love having hydrangeas in our backyard to cut and use in our home throughout the summer.

I bought new planters for our side patio this year. These square quatrefoil planters are from Home Depot and are part of the Home Decorators collection. I planted pink mandevilla in them with my black iron obelisks I got from Nell Hills a few years ago.

Not pictured: We have a small garden next to our house along the side patio and that is where I plant our herbs, cherry tomatoes, and red peppers.  I like planting them there because it’s not easily visible (tomato plants are not pretty to look at!) and that side of our house gets a lot of sun. I found these cute herb markers from Williams Sonoma and use them in our herb garden.

Lastly, one of my favorite flowering plants in our yard is our double knock out roses. The color is so vibrant especially against the stone behind it.  However, the stone you see below was original to the house and is starting to deteriorate, so we will need to renovate that at some point.
